Dr. Emelia Karkazis is a native of Bannockburn, Illinois and is so excited to serve the Northshore community with Dr. Lin!
Dr. Karkazis attended Marquette University as a seven-year pre-dental scholar graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2018 with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Karkazis then graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2021 with her D.D.S, and from the University of Illinois Chicago Orthodontics Residency Program in May of 2024 with a M.S. Degree in Oral Sciences along with her Advanced Certificate in Orthodontics.
In dental school, Dr. Karkazis presented her findings on 3D Imaging at the International Association for Dental Research in Vancouver, Canada in 2019 and published her findings in the book titled Applications of Biomedical Engineering in Dentistry in 2020.
She studied the efficacy of Invisalign Attachments and was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2021.
Upon graduation, Dr. Karkazis received the Pierre Fauchard Academy Student Merit Certificate Award and the Quintessence Publishing Company Research Award.
She was subsequently inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.
During residency, Dr. Karkazis was involved in research studying accelerated tooth movement and bone biology. She was the recipient of the Allan G. Brodie Scholars Program Award from the UIC Department of Orthodontics and the Research Aid Award from the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation. Dr. Karkazis was nominated for her research for the Dr. William R. Proffit Resident Scholar Award.
Dr. Karkazis is a member of the Chicago Dental Society, the Hellenic American Dental Society, American Association of Orthodontists, and Illinois Society of Orthodontists. Dr. Karkazis loves orthodontics, as she can create happy, healthy smiles while building trusting relationships with her patients. She is so excited to meet you all!
